The six criteria
1. Independent certification
Every diamond should come with a GIA or IGI report and the number inscribed on the girdle. Without it there is no way to defend the price to the end customer or to resell. See GIA vs IGI.
2. Origin traceability
Ask which supplier or cutting center each stone comes from. A serious wholesaler documents the chain and inspects the stone before it enters the catalog. At Bamo every piece goes through internal review, no exceptions.
3. Inventory in Mexico
Importing stone by stone means weeks of waiting and currency risk on every purchase. A supplier with local inventory delivers common goods immediately and uses its international network only for specific requests. Bamo keeps inventory in Monterrey and complements it with suppliers in the main cutting centers.
4. Replacement and equivalents
Certified stones are unique: they sell and disappear. The supplier must be able to propose equivalents with the same specifications when the stone you wanted is gone. See buying by certificate number.
5. Melee and manufacturing
If your business produces jewelry, you need calibrated melee with consistent grading and, often, a workshop. Bamo supplies 1.0 to 3.0 mm melee and runs its own fine jewelry workshop in 10K, 14K and 18K gold, with white-label service.
6. Discretion
Your supplier should not compete with you or appear in front of your clients. Bamo operates B2B only: it does not sell to the public and does not expose its clients' operations.
Questions worth asking any supplier
- Which laboratories certify your stones, and can I verify every report online?
- How much of the catalog is physically in Mexico and how much is imported to order?
- What happens if the stone I confirmed has already sold?
- Do you carry natural and lab-grown, and how are they distinguished in the paperwork?
- How is it delivered and who is responsible for the stone in transit?
